Owain Clarke
Owain was formerly songwriter, singer and guitarist with folk-roots combo “La Cucina”, who performed at Glastonbury, Womad, and several international festivals from Berlin to the Pyranees. After leaving the band he began focusing on the Celtic Harp as an instrument with which to explore his interest in rhythm and improvisation, trying to unite an awareness of global musical traditions with those of his own Welsh background. His musical influences come from many sources, including Breton and Irish folk music, jazz, flamenco and traditions from Africa and the Middle East.
After several years of teaching music to children with emotional and behavioural difficulties, he trained as a music therapist in Bristol in 2001. Since then he has worked in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight with adults and children in the fields of autism, learning disability, mental health and head injury. In 2008 he completed a specialist training in music therapy and neurology, and in 2014 he completed his Masters degree.
Owain currently plays in the harp and Indian percussion duo “Tant”, and Cumbia band “Atlantico”.
