Amelia Wright

Amelia, has followed a long line of family vocal specialists and musicians, and started singing from the very young age of 5. After singing with lots of local choirs and taking her ABRSM singing exams, she decided to take her talent further and study for a BMus degree at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and also Southampton University; focusing on first study vocals, but also second study piano. Whilst studying she continued to grow her love of classical vocal music, but also broadened her skills in musical theatre and jazz after learning from exceptional specialists at GSMD. After graduating Amelia performed with many local jazz and soul bands, and started teaching privately in and around Dorset.

Her career then took a different path and Amelia trained to be a secondary school music teacher, gaining her Post Graduate certificate in Education from Roehampton university. Amelia then taught music lessons from 11 to 18 years, covering KS3, GCSE, BTEC and A-Level music, in secondary schools within London and Hertfordshire. After moving to Hertfordshire, Amelia also started working for Hertfordshire Music Service, where she taught private singing lessons to a range of students, with varying ability and age, entering many successfully into ABRSM, LCM and Lamda examinations.

Since returning to Bournemouth and starting a family, Amelia has worked more closely with vocal work in education and private singing tuition. For the past three years, funded by Christchurch council, Amelia has worked with Twynham school to run the ‘Singing Strategy’ project, promoting singing in primary education. This has been a great success and still continues to encourage young people to enjoy singing, and educate teaching staff in the many benefits of singing in the classroom.

Amelia’s love of singing and passion for young people enjoying music, has been engrained in her from her family, and a childhood being surrounded by music and the joy of performing. She believes in focusing on learning good and long-lasting vocal technique and performance skills, but also in building confidence, young or old, and just enjoying performing music to make you feel good!
