Vivienne Kirk

Vivienne has more than 20 years of teaching experience and forged a variety of pianistic skills as a hotel and restaurant pianist during the 1990’s. She has a Diploma in Music, a Certificate in Further Education Training (C.F.E.T.) and is working towards her ABRSM Diploma.

She believes lessons should be instructive, fun and engaging and enjoys enabling pupils to play the music they would like to play. This sometimes means personally arranging music to suit the individual and for some, developing aural skills to facilitate freedom from notated music and a more improvised style. She teaches adults and children, is creative both in and out of the exam structure and has a 100% pass rate in ABRSM and Trinity exam boards.

Vivienne facilitates music and movement, singing and meditation with adults with learning difficulties. Volunteer work includes teaching for local music charity Sound Solution whose aim is to introduce those on the edges of society to the enjoyment of music. She also performs as accompanist to chanteuse and radio agony aunt, Lorelei Delane in the alternative cabaret act Stranger Than Fiction, all of which she enjoys immensely!

Qualifications:

Diploma in Music, Certificate in Further Education Training (C.F.E.T.)

Comments from adult learners:

“After a break of nearly 30 years, Vivienne rekindled my love for the piano. I took the plunge and have never looked back. It is a joyous hobby & Vivienne’s ability to always choose the right piece for me keeps me moving forward and I know it is now a passion that will stay with me always” (Sarah)

“I have had piano lessons from other teachers, but in my humble opinion, Vivienne is the best.

As an older pupil, I sometimes find it difficult to grasp things straight away, but Vivienne is patient and always takes time to explain, until I understand what she is trying to teach me. Her qualities shone through when she guided me through Grade 1 Theory- I passed, gaining a distinction.” (Lawrie)

“I was a late starter, seventy-three to be precise and have now just played my first grade 5 piece. Vivienne has guided me through the wonderful experience of learning to play, she is an excellent teacher; fair, firm and above all kind” (Vicky)
