Sally Ovenden

I studied ceramics at Falmouth School of Art, graduating in 1989. After producing my own range of slip cast hand painted mugs for several years, ceramics was put aside to concentrate on raising a family and working in the family business. A chance to play with clay occurred in 2013 and the passion for clay rekindled. I am inspired by the forces of nature, the changing seasons and the celebrating the huge variety of flora and fauna from the New Forest and South Coast. I love to find treasures on my walks, a lovely leaf, a smooth pebble, a twisted twig, a shiny beetle hurrying along. All these little things are playing a part in my work entwined with the idea of secrets and surprises. My work is made using a combination of techniques, throwing, hand building and sculpture in stoneware clay.
