Coda Easter Newsletter

We hope you have all had an enjoyable Spring Term. A reminder that this is the last week of term and term ends on THURSDAY 28th MARCH for the Easter holidays.

EXAM CONGRATULATIONS

Enormous congratulations to Oscar Davis (not pictured), who took his post-Grade 8 ARSM violin Diploma exam this month. The Diploma is an advanced qualification for students at a very high level, providing an opportunity for learners beyond Grade 8 to create and perform an extended programme of music and demonstrate performance skills.

Oscar received a DISTINCTION in his ARSM performance diploma, achieving an outstanding 47 marks out of 50.

Congratulations also to Carol Shaw and Tangerine Battista who both achieved DISTINCTIONS in their recent Grade 3 and Grade 1 Trinity Piano examinations respectively.

Well done to all of you – amazing work!

OUR WORK IN THE COMMUNITY

Huge thanks to Max Elmore, one of Coda’s talented students, who played last week as part of Coda’s residency at Bournemouth Hospital’s Dementia ward, performing a selection of music for residents, patients and visitors to enjoy. Everyone on the ward really enjoyed and appreciated the experience.

We have received some incredible feedback from previous sessions at the hospital, where patients who were distressed, solitary, unmotivated or reluctant to engage have been singing along, playing instruments, tapping their feet, clapping, smiling, alert and fully engaged. Some have even been thanking the musicians and waving goodbye at the end of the session, clearly demonstrating the therapeutic importance of music in such settings.

Continuing this valuable work in the community, our brilliant Coda Memory Band will be going ‘on tour’ over the coming months, visiting

  • Linden House, Lymington on Friday 5th April at 2pm

  • The Gatehouse, Barton-on-Sea on Tuesday 9th April at 11am

  • Avon View, Christchurch on Tuesday 9th April at 2pm

  • St. Annes, Southbourne on Thursday 11th April at 10.45am

  • Memory Lane, Mudeford on Thursday 11th April 2.15pm

  • Lymington Dementia Group on Tuesday 28th May

  • Bournemouth Hospital on Thursday 30th May 2.30pm

Thanks to NFU Mutual for supporting this work with older people in our local community.

COMING OUT OF THEIR SHELLS AT CLUB CREATE

Our fabulous Club Create participants have been busy creating these egg-ceptional Easter chicks during their recent sessions and we’ve loved seeing them take shape.

If you support an adult with a learning disability, please come along and be creative! Sessions take place in the Coda Café on a Friday morning from 10.30am to 12pm and run each week throughout term time.

If you are interested, please get in touch – contact us on contact@coda.org.uk or telephone 01425 276161 if you would like to take part.
