For over 50’s

Are you over 50 and looking for something new?

Singing in a choir is beneficial in many ways. As well as improving our sense of happiness and wellbeing, group singing also has positive effects on physical health, which can improve life expectancy and quality of life.

As an aerobic activity, singing is particularly beneficial for improving breathing, posture and muscle tension. There’s also some evidence to suggest that music can play a role in sustaining a healthy immune system.

And it’s not just a physical workout: music-making exercises the brain as well as the body, improving both concentration and memory. Group singing increases happiness, reduces stress and helps forge social connections – all of which play a vital role in maintaining health.

But what if you can’t sing? Everyone can sing (however much you protest). Very few people actually have no musical ability.

The Coda Health and Happiness Choir is for over 50’s who want to sing (even if they think they can’t!)

The choir covers a wide range of songs, from classic pop and well-known standards to some more modern songs and the odd showtune!
You’ll also learn a broad range of musical/vocal techniques and sessions will incorporate fun, accessible breathing and vocal exercises.

These sessions are not suitable for the very elderly or those in poor health or with chronic illness. The choir aims to help maintain good health and offer the opportunity to engage with music and the social benefits it brings.

The Coda Health & Happiness Choir runs on a Thursday from 10am to 12pm (with a tea break in the middle so you can get to know one another better!). The choir costs £5 per session and takes place at Coda Music Centre, Chewton Farm Road, Walkford, Christchurch BH23 5QL

These are drop-in, pay as you go sessions, so there is no long-term commitment, although we’re sure you will love the choir enough to want to come every week.

Sessions are led by Hannah Meredith. Hannah is an experienced and knowledgable vocal tutor and choir leader with expertise in the physiology of singing and the health benefits it brings.

Belonging to a singing group is good for body and soul and The Coda Health & Happiness Choir provides an inclusive and cost-effective means to improve your health, wellbeing, and social life!
