MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR

We hope that you have all enjoyed learning and playing throughout the Autumn Term.

We have a couple of new courses starting in January, which are ideal for both beginners and those who want to improve their technique. We will be running our popular Beginners Piano course again, plus a brand new ‘Fingerstyle’ Guitar course. Full details are below.

CODA FIDDLE ORCHESTRA CONCERT

Thank you to everyone who came along to the Coda Fiddle Orchestra Concert at St. Peter’s Church on 3rd December. We enjoyed brilliant performances from all sections of the orchestra – from starter to advanced groups, plus some stunning solos.

Thanks to Pete and Lynda of The John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation, who kindly support the project and who presented certificates to the CFO music scholars. Congratulations also to Alessandro Nuvoli, who was presented with the President’s Cup.

CODA CHRISTMAS CONCERT

Huge thanks to everyone who came along to our Christmas Concert on 4th December at New Milton Memorial Hall – to all of our fantastic groups & ensembles and everybody who came along to enjoy the performances and show support. We hope you left feeling full of festive spirit!

Thanks to your generosity over the course of the evening, we raised an amazing £308 from the raffle and a further £52.80 in donations. THANK YOU!

CREATIVE WELLBEING STUDIO CROWDFUNDER UPDATE –
MAKE TWICE THE DIFFERENCE!

Thank you to everyone who has already donated to our Creative Wellbeing Studio – the current total raised is almost 50% of our target. However, we still have £5,000 left to raise to make our Creative Wellbeing Studio a reality.

If we raise £10,000, then Sovereign Housing will double this to £20,000.

Together with our partners at hArt, we want to build on their already life-changing work with adults and children with mental health and wider social issues. Through creative therapy and a range of professionally structured activities, hArt works with people of all ages and abilities, offering group programmes, workshops and access to fully qualified Art Therapists, as well as working with experienced teachers, artists and facilitators to offer enjoyable, social activities, bringing people together for relaxation, leisure and learning.

This creative wellbeing studio will allow us to expand this programme of work to improve mental health, wellbeing and wider social issues through creative therapies, as well as increasing access to creative activities and reducing social isolation.

Please help us with a final push – anything you can give is appreciated – we have until 26th December to reach our target. This studio will support the wellbeing of local people through creativity, craft and art therapy and allow Coda to diversify and help even more people in the community through its work in the arts.

This course will be a practical programme of learning to play, interspersed with discussion and exercises developing knowledge of how to understand and read music.

The cost of the course is £100 and places are limited to 5 per course. Your place on the course is confirmed once payment is received.

MUSIC THERAPY PLACEMENTS

In the New Year, Coda is working with the University of the West of England (UWE) and their School of Health and Wellbeing to offer some new services here at Coda with placements from their MA in Music Therapy.

We are hoping to provide one-to-one Music Therapy and/or a small group session for adults with profound and multiple learning disabilities (on Thursdays) here at Coda and are keen to hear from anyone interested in working with us.

If you work with an adult with complex needs (both learning and physical disabilities) and would like know more, please contact phil.hallett@coda.org.uk as soon as possible.

We plan to hold an assessment session by the end of January and offer low or no-cost music therapy sessions with UWE until May 2023.

A reminder that our Spring Term starts on Monday 9th January.

We wish you all a very merry Christmas and look forward to welcoming you back in 2023.
