Family Orchestra
in partnership with the
Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra
The BSO/Coda Family Orchestra has been designed to bring together families of all shapes and sizes to share the joy of making music with each other.
The aim is to encourage people to come together, experience playing in an ensemble with other like-minded individuals and to create new pieces of music from scratch.
The BSO/Coda Family Orchestra is open to everyone, whatever your musical standard – from experienced musicians, to those who have only just started learning an instrument.
You don’t need to be related – this is much more about MUSICAL kinship – joining together and playing. Come with relatives, friends or even on your own to join our musical family.
Any instrument, any ability, any age* welcome!
*our guideline minimum age for children is 5+
Sessions will be led by BSO Associate Sam Mason, who will be joined by special guests from the BSO and Coda.
All elements of music will be examined from tone, timbre and tempo to conducting. The sessions will not just explore existing repertoire, but support composing and devising new music as part of an ensemble. In this way, participants will contribute and shape the sessions and compose an original piece which will be performed at the Lighthouse in July.
The Family Orchestra will meet from 2pm to 4pm
at St. Michael’s C of E Primary School, Somerville Road, Bournemouth, Dorset BH2 5LH
Initial sessions will be monthly, with the final 3 sessions closer together to rehearse more intensively for the performance.
Dates are as follows:
- Sunday 13th January
- Sunday 17th February
- Sunday 17th March
- Sunday 7th April
- Sunday 2nd June
- Sunday 23rd June
- Sunday 30th June
CONCERT
Saturday 13th July – Lighthouse – 6.30pm (approx)
The Family Orchestra will share its work ahead of the BSO Inside/Out concert in the Summer. This is a fantastic, family event and a friendly, welcoming audience for the culmination performance.
The cost of each session is £5 for individuals, £6 for 2 people, £8 for 3 people and £10 for a family of 4 or more.
Moving forward, we would like to encourage participants to book online via the BSO website but initially we will be able to accept payment at the sessions.
We will also be offering exclusive discounted tickets for two BSO performances to Family Orchestra members.
