£70 for a 7-week course

A good knowledge of music theory will give you confidence and boost your playing. Having a good understanding of what’s written on a page will help with your timing, interpretation and group playing scenarios. Everyone who plays music will benefit from the confidence and freedom understanding music theory provides.

This introduction to music theory is for anyone seeking to better understand music and will help you with the skills needed to read and write Western music notation, as well as to understand, analyse, and listen to music of all genres.

The 7-week course will provide an intensive learning opportunity to enhance your regular instrumental lessons and/or playing. Led by Andrew Blee, it is for beginners of all ages and is designed to help you understand the language of music, including:

– the stave, note lengths, bar lines
– key signatures
– the circle of 5ths
– the treble clef
– time signatures
– the concept of rhythm
– negotiating the ‘geography’ of a piece of music

The course, although theory based, will encourage group participation, include question and answer sessions and provide a practical context relating to your playing and/or exams.

If you have already reached a certain level of proficiency, but your progress is frustrated due to a lack of music theory knowledge, we can also offer one-to-one Music Theory lessons with Andy to help get you to the required level. Find out more click here
