Young Music Makers

What is the Young Music Makers Programme?

The Young Music Makers Programme provides an opportunity for children aged 6-7 to work in small groups learning an instrument.  This introduction to playing also provides a bridge between the Kindermusik Programmes and taking up individual music lessons. The children enjoy being part of a group whilst playing independently on an instrument. Group instruments offered may include piano; violin; cello; guitar; world drumming and percussion, ocarina and recorders, contemporary vocals, ukelele.

No previous Coda training is necessary.  The Programme begins in September for one academic year, but if there is sufficient demand, we can set up new groups at any point in the year.

What will the children learn?

Young Music Maker classes will be in groups of between 2-6 students and will last 40 minutes and incorporate stimulating and fun activities whilst building on any previous achievements and knowledge.  Alongside developing music awareness, improvisation and creative skills, conventional music reading will also be introduced with attention given to correct instrument technique.

Opportunities are available to perform to parents and in the Coda concerts and events. Your child’s progress will be monitored with frequent informal assessments plus reports written to parents at the end of the academic year.  Many proceed to take on their chosen instrument in individual lessons.
