Tom discovered his love for playing music during his early teens after showing an aptitude for guitar. Since the age of 13, he has played with a variety of different function bands ranging from a heavy metal group to an 11 piece soul band performing across the country including the Olympic sailing centre, Concorde Club, Southampton University and Cardiff City Football Stadium. He is currently the band leader of a popular function band called ‘City Lights’.
His qualifications include a BA Hons Degree in Popular Music Performance at Southampton Solent University (2:1) as well as Grade 8 guitar and Grade 5 music theory.
Tom has been teaching music since the age of 18 and enjoys working with all age ranges. His past experience includes working his gap year at Weymouth College as part of the teaching staff for BTEC music taking a lead in pupil’s performance, songwriting, music theory and one-on-one guitar lessons. He also returns each year to the College to teach year 9 and 10 students on a summer school programme leading workshops in music theory, songwriting and guitar.
Whilst at University he also worked at Totton College as a guitar teacher teaching students aged 16-18 at all levels and on finishing University he worked as a self employed guitar teacher in the Southampton area with students across the whole age spectrum.
Tom is a dedicated and passionate guitar and bass teacher who very much enjoys passing on his knowledge and passion of music to his students.
