Kids Ukulele Band & Saturday Rock and Pop School
James has a huge passion for music and participatory arts and learnt the piano from a very early age, as well as singing in choirs. In 2011 he moved to York to study Community Music where he gained an MA Masters Degree and spent a very wholesome year engaging in all kinds of diverse musical participation projects. These included musical recitals in hospitals, Shadow Puppet Plays, intergenerational workshops in care homes, as well as Gamelan workshops with schools and the elderly.
He then moved to London where he taught music to children for three years in primary schools as well as special schools. During this time he became particularly interested in the Ukulele and set up some clubs both in schools and at community centres in East London with adults. This led to him taking Ukulele workshops to festivals, including Wilderness, where he created pop-up Ukulele bands with children and adults alike.
He returned to his much loved coastline of Dorset in 2015 and now runs Ukulele Groups and Rock Schools for Coda as well as First Access Music courses in primary schools. He also teaches the piano in his spare time and composes music with a particular passion for musical improvisation.
