Coda Fiddle Orchestra
Director - Jack Maguire A.R.A.M
Honorary Patron - Nigel Kennedy
Coda Fiddle Orchestra is a participatory community music project that works with children and young people - and their families - predominantly from West Boscombe. It offers violin tuition and ensemble opportunities – through the Fiddle Orchestra - for those aged 6 to 16 from a deprived area of Bournemouth (Boscombe). It is run by Jack Maguire, former co-leader of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. It has been running since 2004 and is now evolving to include traditional, folk and popular music with improvisation and technology.
Coda Fiddle Orchestra 2007/08 – The Live Wire Funky Fiddle Project!
Children and young people participating in the Coda Fiddle Orchestra in 2008 will be expending their skills and working creatively , improvising and beginning to use electric acoustic violins. The aims of this project are:
- To support young people with little opportunity
- To raise self esteem, confidence and aspiration through participatory music, working with high quality and experienced musicians
- To work in partnership with Boscombe Neighbourhood Management, St Clement’s and St John’s First School and Bethany Junior School
- To develop sustainable quality music-making opportunities for young people in a deprived area of Bournemouth
Where does it happen?
Every Saturday at St. Mary’s Community Centre, Springbourne. In addition, there are a number of both individual and group coaching sessions at both St.Clement’s and St John’s First School and Bethany Junior School. Plus there are a number of exciting performance opportunities which take place throughout the year.
Fiddlers (all ages and standards), guitarists, bass guitarists, accordionists and keyboard players are all welcome!
