Coda Choirs and Ensembles
Coda Music Centre provides an environment so conducive to creative and enjoyable music-making that many participants remain with the Choir or the Community Singers for many years.
Coda Community Singers
The Community Singers are led by experienced and popular musician Bob Burke and alongside the many performances they put on annually they have huge fun. They have recently produced a CD of their songs. The Community Singers are open to anyone who enjoys singing – no music reading or previous experience is necessary. Songs include rounds, calls, folk music, spirituals, world music, and songs from the world of musical theatre, the shows and rock and pop.
The group currently has some 28 members and meet at Coda Music Centre at 7.30pm on a Tuesday evening.
Coda Choir
Coda Choir is run by Linda Cameron, who is an extremely experienced musician with a strong background in choir leadership across a wide range of styles. The Choir - comprising Sopranos, Altos, Tenors and Basses - is a chamber choir size (up to 25 members) and performs a wide-ranging repertoire from classical to contemporary including madrigals, music theatre, sacred music, world music and lighter popular music. The songs span different ages and cultures with the aim of producing a fine, blended choral sound. Learning is fun and friendly, often including the use of choral games and challenges. Coda Choir meets every Wednesday evening at 7.30 p.m. and performs approximately three to four times per year.
Coda Children's Showtime Choir
This new group for children aged from 6 to 13 years puts the emphasis clearly on fun but also works on and extends vocal skills and enthusiasms of the young participants. Drawing on a wide repertoire including musical theatre, the Coda Children’s Showtime Choir is directed by Linda Cameron who is also an experienced Stage Coach tutor.
Coda Chamber Ensemble
This is an all age ensemble targeting more experienced players (min Grade 4 standard). Giving 3 or 4 concerts each year, it is supported by a small number of professional and semi professional musicians, which enable those participating to play alongside very experienced performers. It is directed by Coda’s Cello Tutor and international performer, Joseph Koos.
Other Ensembles
Coda Music likes to give its students diverse opportunities to make music together. Throughout the year therefore, it puts together a range of different ensembles to suit differing levels of ability (e.g. Coda Jazz Ramblers (beginners to Grade _) and Coda Destiny Band (grade 4 upward). There are also opportunities for our piano students to perform together using Coda’s suite of 9 Clavinovas. Increasingly Coda is working to develop students’ creativity through the nurturing of improvisational and composition skills.
